Scott Short.

Founder · Building Surveyor

Over 20 years in construction. I began as a quantity surveyor in the private sector and later moved into building pathology — detecting and diagnosing defects from routine material breakdown through to serious issues in incorrectly built elements and fire strategies.

Idris & Coen is built on that experience. When you instruct us, I carry out the inspection, I write the report, and I’m the person you speak to afterwards.

We had Scott of Idris & Coen carry out a Level 3 home buyers report on a period property in north Cardiff. We were maxing out our budget so had to make sure there were no nasty surprises when we completed. Scott carried out the survey at the agreed time and date and gave us a thorough inspection report. He picked up a failure in the cavity wall ties at the back of the house — they looked as if they had been repaired but on further inspection Scott noticed that they had only been patch repaired and the problem still existed. From picking up this defect we managed to adjust the buying price to allow for these works on completion. Great service, highly recommend.
